Debt Relief Solutions for Medical Debt- Part Three

Debt relief solutions are often sought for medical debt because so many people don't have insurance, and those who do don't have nearly enough coverage. Anyone who is having problems with medical debt needs to get itemized medical bills to ensure that they weren't overcharged before they file bankruptcy or seek medical debt relief solutions.

Here is part three of common medical bill errors:

11. Delays in services that are not the fault of the patient- this charge is usually wrongly placed on the patient when in fact it was not their fault that services were delayed at all. If they had to stay longer in the hospital due to a hospital or provider error or situation rather than of their own cause, they are likely being overcharged. Delays can occur because of:

-Re-scheduling of tests. A hospital might be too busy and need to reschedule your test. This delays your stay in the hospital or the time before you get surgery that you need, and you could be billed for that extra day in many cases.

-Test results delayed. It doesn't matter why your test results are delayed and keep you waiting in the hospital, because this is also not your fault. Hospital stays delayed because of test results is another charge that you should not be billed for.

-Delays in surgery. Once again, this is not the fault of the patient, but is a common reason that people are charged for prolonged stays in the hospital. As with the situations above, the hospital is at fault here, not the patient.

-Teaching situations. In some cases, residents will be reviewing your case for educational purposes. If this is your situation, it is a complete waste of your time and you should not be charged for extra days when in fact it is not your choice to stay longer.

-Dismissal times. In some situations, a few hours may mean the difference between being charged for an additional day. If the doctor is late in getting you checked out, it is not your responsibility to pay for that extra day.
